Reflection

For me personally I feel that this unit I could have improved if I had more time as I gave my other units a lot more priority. Organizing my work load and managing my time is something that I am working on and I have improved however it is evident that I have not improved enough. On the other hand I feel that I have created a solid body of work that shows that I have thought through the possibilities of what I have wanted to create, often changing my mind along the way to test out new ideas.
I feel that my brief concept was quite challenging and next time I would possibly look at creating something more to do with advertising as creating the book was incredibly time consuming. However I have learnt many new skills from doing this project and I now know that I will be able to take these on into the next project I do.
If I were to do the project again I feel that I would give myself more time to look deeper into the possibilities of getting the book published properly. Although I like the book that I made myself I feel that I have let myself down slightly by the quality of its design. With this in mind however I feel that considering I have rarely made books before it has turned out to be a good and efficient book that does the job I wanted it to.
Overall I can see where I have made mistakes and I can also see where I have triumphed in areas that I had previously had no knowledge about. The unit itself I feel has been a valuable learning experience and is something that I may work on more in the future.

Title pages

All of these are the title pages to my book. I decided that i was going have the images separate from the recipe so that i had more room on the pages. I feel if i had tried to cram it all on one page then the effect would have been lost and i would have a book that just does not work properly. There is a 4cm gap down the left side of each page, this is to allow the pages to be seen when i sow the book together. If i had let the images go all the way to the sides of the pages i feel that i would have been left with half an image that would have looked awful in the page sequencing. I put the ingredients in a box highlighted with red to link back to the colour of the front cover and i also continued to use the different fonts to add interest and keep the book flowing.
Overall i'm very pleased with how they've turned out and feel  that it works well as a book. I decided that i did not want to do the book as a Constantina as i felt this would be far too complicated after actually making one. Sowing i felt worked the best as when i made a small book this way before it looks appealing but gives a lot more room for the contents.

Cover and Recipe Pages

All of the images above are my recipe pages, introductions and cover. I decided to use the different typefaces as i felt this best reflected what is currently trending on the market for student cookbooks. They are all done on 21cmx23cm so they at first look slightly square but then on closer inspection you can see that they are actually rectangular. Using these particular fonts i was worried that the swirly typeface (Falling Rain) would be too delicate and flimsy, however once printed it looks fine and is actually very quick and easy to read.
I decided that i would keep my front cover as simple as possible as i felt that this would reflect best upon the book. The large font on the POWER was done to create more impact. I hae printed the cover on red card as i felt that this showed it off to its best potential. Overall i am very pleased with these pages as i feel they work well and show skill in their design, when put together they help the book flow and work well.

My images

These are my final images for Unit 7. All of them are shot using natural light as i felt that the studio lighting that i had previously done was far to forced and staged. For me personally I felt that using natural light would give me images that felt and looked a lot more natural. I tried to crop all of the images in a similar way so that the book would have a flow and this is why all of them still have their rectangular crop, however because of the size of some of the dishes cropping them in exactly the same way was not an option. Overall i am very pleased with my final outcomes as i feel they represent what i wanted well. They still look professional without being done in the studio, giving them that little bit more of an edgy feel.
